3.1   Selection of Raspberry Pi Model

When purchasing Raspberry Pi, you should clarify the purpose of use. If you want to use it only for a limited purpose, you can use a lower model that has a relatively low processing power. However, if you want to use it as a general purpose just like general PC, you will have to use the latest upper model that have various advanced features and high level processing.

Below is a brief overview of the Raspberry Pi model and how it can be used.

   Raspberry Pi 1 model A/A+

Because it supports 700MHz CPU and 256MB of memory, only small programs can be executed. There is only one USB port, so it is not possible to connect various external devices. Also, the network communication can not be done because the Ethernet port is not provided. Therefore, it can only be used independently in an environment that does not work with other computers. It can also be used for other limited purposes just like embedded environments connected to machines, process line, or facilities.

   Raspberry Pi 1 model B/ B+

It supports 700MHz CPU and 512MB memory, so you can run programs with a certain capacity. There are 2 to 4 USB ports, so you can connect various external devices. Also, since it provides an Ethernet port, it can operate in conjunction with an external system. Therefore, it is suitable for the case where it is used for a limited purpose but needs to be linked with another external system.

   Raspberry Pi 2 model B

It supports 900MHz quad-core CPU and 1GB of RAM, so you can run a fairly large program, and there are four USB ports, so you can connect a variety of external devices. Also, since it provides an Ethernet port, it can operate in conjunction with an external system. It has a lower performance compared to a normal PC, but there is no shortage for almost all purpose. Therefore, it is suitable for the cases that it is used for general purposes, and need to interwork with other external systems.

   Raspberry Pi 3 model B

It supports 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core CPU and 1GB RAM, so you can run programs with a very large capacity quickly. There are four USB ports, so you can connect a variety of external devices. Also, since it provides an Ethernet port, it can operate in conjunction with an external system. And because Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are provided, it also has features that can be used for general purposes like a normal PC.
